Yarlha Shampo is a mountain in the famous Yarlung valley of central Tibet. It is here that the first king of Tibet, Nyatri Tsenpo, descended to earth on this highest peak in the region. The mountain has played an important role in Tibetan mythology since the pre-Buddhist period.
Yarlho Shampo (6636 m - 21,722 ft) is one of the four great snow capped mountains in central Tibet along with Nojin Gangsang, Jomo Gangkar and Tidro Gang, each in one of the four cardinal directions.
In Tibetan culture, mountains are not only the abodes of deities, they are the deities themselves. As such, Yarlha Shampo was oath-bound by Padmasambhava and appears riding a white yak.
The mountain is graced with two prominent peaks and marks the end of the Yarlung Valley and the gateway to the Indian and Bhutanese borders. Perhaps this is why foreigners are not allowed to go to Yarlha Shampo.
Since Lama Dechen Yeshe Wangmo's first trip to central Tibet in 2009, she has always gone to meet with the manager of Mindrolling Monastery's store in the Lhasa Barkhor to purchase the best Mindrolling incense and whatever else was of interest.
Shopping for the Yarlha Shampo crystal points has always been a great delight, as each is carefully unwrapped and examined before purchase. Some years, sadly, none were to be had, but last year was a good year and Lama purchased almost the entire stock.
We also love to support Mindrolling Monastery with our purchases.
Please check the stock and see if there's a Yarlha Shampo crystal point in your life!
